Turbine Reveals LOTRO Plans

thumb_ScreenShot02383Turbine recently did an interview with Ten Ton Hammer, giving The Lord of the Rings Online players a heads-up on the new features and content coming out in Update 5 and the early part of 2012. The biggest news is that players will cross swords (staves?) with Saruman himself by the end of the year in a new raid on the Tower of Orthanc.

The 12-man raid will be accompanied by two three-man instances, Fangorn's Edge and Pits of Isengard, and a six-man instance, The Foundry. Fangorn's Edge takes place, fittingly, on the fringes of Fangorn Forest, while the other two instances are set in the bowels of Isengard. Naturally, there will be epic loot to make all the fighting worth players' attention.

thumb_ScreenShot02380On another front, Turbine will also add an instance finder to the game, letting players queue up for instances in the game in lieu of using the chat channels to form groups. While it's only speculation, implementation of this feature would seem to be a requirement for any plans the company might have for instanced PvP battlegrounds, something that many would say is sorely needed to revitalize LOTRO's PvP scene.

Turbine's Adam Mersky also dropped a few hints about what players can expect to see in 2012:

We're not really ready yet to talk about 2012, but I can tell you this: we're certainly very focused on Update 5 and getting that out... but there's going to be a lot more content in 2012 than there was in 2011. Isengard was our best-selling expansion ever, and we're definitely taking that and investing in the franchise next year, we have a lot of exciting things coming. There will be some big announcements coming probably in January.
