The LEGO Group and Dire Wolf Digital, a new company formed by several MMO and TCG industry veterans, today announced that it would be producing a digital and physical trading-card game based on the upcoming LEGO Universe MMO. The game is scheduled for release in 2011, several months after the release of the MMO, which goes live on Oct. 26.
“We’re obviously very excited about LEGO Universe, and adding a TCG provides additional content, as well as a brand new customizable play experience,” said LEGO Universe Senior Director Mark William Hansen. “The Dire Wolf team are experts in this space, and their passion for excellence made them a natural choice for this project.”
“Creating a game with the LEGO Group and NetDevil is an exciting opportunity, allowing us to work with a beloved brand and great business partners,” added Dire Wolf Digital President Scott Martins, who founded Worlds Apart, the digital TCG company that was purchased by Sony in 2006. As SOE's Denver studio, the company produced several online TCGs related to SOE's MMOs, including EverQuest II, Star Wars: Galaxies, and Free Realms. The deal also includes a license to produce digital products for PC, Mac, and mobile devices.
