Exploring the Arcane Transmutor
![]()
Runes of Magic has one of the most advanced equipment upgrade systems ever to appear in an MMO. Best of all, it's available to anyone playing the game after they complete a simple quest at level 10.
In short, the Arcane Transmutor is a tool that can be used to improve your equipment, increase the tier of runes or be used to combine several different runes into an entirely new rune. It's more like a magical stat transfer machine or stat combiner.
The Arcane Transmutor can do a lot of things. First, it can be used to combine stat runes that you find in-game. When you combine five stat runes from the same tier, you get a single rune of the next highest tier. For example, five tier II Endurance runes would come out at as one tier III Endurance rune. Think of it as concentrating the stats into a single enhancement item.
Second, it can combine two different runes into a third kind of rune. An example would be combining a level I Endurance rune with a level one Resistance rune, which results in a level II Atonement rune.
Third, it can strip the stats from a piece of equipment using a power stone to make an enhanced mana stone. For example:
Combining a Short Sword with +5 Defense with a power stone that features +3 Attack and +4 Stamina will give you a mana stone with +5 Defense, +4 Stamina and +3 Attack stat bonuses. Of course the sword will be destroyed in the process as it will have had its stats absorbed by the mana stone.
You can also combine three mana stones that are all the same tier (all level I, all level II, etc.) into a mana stone of the next level that features all of the stats of the lower level runes. You can also put the stats directly onto an item at this point.
Getting Started
In order to use the Arcane Transmutor, you need to collect a few things first. But it's well worth the time when you end up with an item that has the stats you want on it.
1. First you need to visit the bulletin boards in the different cities across Taborea to get daily quests. By completing the daily quests, you are rewarded with Phirius tokens. When you reach level 10, you automatically receive a quest that rewards you with 10 Arcane Transmutor charges, which is enough to get started.
2. You then need to go to the class hall in Varanas and exchange your tokens for Arcane Transmutor charges or use the Phirius token shop inside the item mall. It costs 30 Phirius tokens for each charge. You can also buy Transmutor charges in the item shop, which is faster.
3. Now you need to acquire some power stones. While in Varanas, visit the NPC next to the Enchanter in the West Wing and buy some stones. You could hunt and wait for drops as well, but the fastest way is to use your gold as it's not very expensive. When buying a power stone from an NPC, a random attribute will be added to its pre-existing attributes. You can also purchase clean purified fusion stones (no stats) from the item mall and the Phirius token shop.
4. If you want to immediately use the stats you are pulling from the runes and stones, you need an item that you want to put the stats onto, or an item that you want to take the stats from. (NOTE: when you pull stats from an item, the item is destroyed, so be sure not to pull the stats off of something you want to put stats onto).
Now Let's Upgrade Some Gear
To upgrade an item you have to open the Arcane Transmutor, which can be accessed by pressing "B" to open your backpack.
Select the treasure chest icon to open the Transmutor.
Drag the item you want to upgrade and three mana stones (of the same tier) into the Arcane Transmutor. (You'll get a preview of the resulting item in the preview window). Only a certain number of attributes can be transferred, so if you are trying to transfer more attributes than equipment of that tier can hold, the weaker attribute values will be transferred first.
Click "Confirm" to upgrade your weapon or armor. Now go enjoy the game with your new "epic"-style gear.
